Paragliding on the French Riviera
Gréolières due to its setting, close to the warming sea breezes, and protected by the foothills of the Alps to the North and East, and the mountains of Provence to the West, the area enjoys a 'micro climate', ensuring over 300 days of sunshine every year.
The Cheiron mountain has a large south-facing slope which allows thermic flights all year round.
The site is well suited for all levels of paragliding practice, from the first flight to advanced learning.
Groups with their own flight instructors will use the Gite du Cheiron as a base camp to explore the area, with the nearest takeoff just 5 minutes away from the Gite, and the landing field just as close!
For the groups that do not have their own flight instructor, or if you wish to benefit from local help and insight we warmly recommend that you contact Pierre Verrier from the Cumulus paragliding school.
Accommodation for paraglider groups
We frequently welcome groups of paragliders anywhere from 10 to 15 personnes for a one week stay at the gite with their flight instructors.
The three apartments in the gite each have their own kitchen, with a fridge, cooking hobs, etc..., which allows you to organize your days freely.
Paragliding spots in the area
The local paragliding spots are managed by the Au Gré de l'Air club, a paraglider association of the French Riviera which manages the paragliding sites of Greolieres and Col de Bleyne.
Less than 20 minutes from the Gite you will also find the paragliding and handgliding site of Gourdon with its unique view on all the French Riviera.
The web site of Ozone Paragliders (based in Bar-sur-Loup just 30 minutes from Greolieres) lists the best paragliding spots on the French Riviera.
In 2011 Luc Armant made a record paragliding flight of 245km starting from Greolieres.
